Federal Vs. Provincial Requirements
Alberta is the only province that has provincial transportation requirements different than the rest of Canada for companies that only operate within the province of Alberta. But, Alberta carriers that operate in Alberta and other provinces are designated as Federal and must comply with federal legislation. Under federal legislation, trucks or truck and trailer combinations registered for a combined weight of more than 4,500 kg must comply with NSC Standards. This means that there are four main courses that need to be taken by each company:
